Selection delay
The All Black selectors have once again been given a week’s grace before naming their team for the deciding third test against Australia at Eden Park, Auckland on September 6. The chairman of the New Zealand Union,' Mr Russell Thomas, said that the team would be announced next weekend at the request of the selection panel, which wanted more time to study the team. After the second test at Carisbrook, the convener of the selectors, Brian Lochore, suggested that they were in no hurry to name the side, although it has usually been released the day
after the test. Mr Lochore said that he wanted to see the full extent of Injuries. “It only disrupts the side when you choose one player and have to call in a replacement.”
The biggest concern is the captain and halfback, David Kirk, who played the final few minutes with a badly broken nose, received when making a head-on tackle. The Auckland doctor, however, is confident he will be fighting fit for the third and final test.
The other injuries, according to Mr Lochore, were mainly confined to haemotomas. i
