Charge for tests
Sir, —There have been reports that the number of cases of cervical cancer in recent times is on the increase. I feel that the comment made by Mr McCafferty (August 20) that cervical cancer smears “are not urgent” is totally wrong. If women have to pay the $l5 each time, you can be sure that not all women will be able to meet this and the number of cancer cases will increase. I believe that this form of cancer is easily dealt with, if caught early enough. In the fight to stamp out cancer, of any form, I strongly feel that the smear tests should remain free of charge to all women. — Yours, etc.,
(Mrs) P. PRESCOTT. August 20, 1986.
