Drug parents, daughter reunite
NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles
A girl who turned her parents over to the police for using illegal drugs has been reunited with them.
Deanna Young, aged 13, was released from a children’s home on Saturday the family’s lawyer, Gary Proctor, said.
Deanna took a bag containing marijuana and cocaine to the local police station at Tustin, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, after attending a church lecture on the perils of illegal stimulants. / Her parents, Bobby, aged 49, a bartender, and Judith, aged 37, a court clerk, were charged with possessing drugs but were
released to await trial. Their daughter was placed in a home for abused children.
After repeated attempts by her parents to secure her release Deanna was allowed to leave the home.
“A judge agreed it was wrong to punish Deanna when all she did was what she thought was right,” Mr Proctor said.
“The family is very happy to be back together again. But the glare of the spotlight has probably created family difficulties,” he said. His office had received more than 100 calls from Hollywood studios bidding for the rights to the story.
