Trainers fined
PA Auckland Pukekohe trainer Peter Blanchard was fined $250 on a charge of having faulty gear after an incident at the start of the Sergio Handicap Trot at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting at Cambridge on Friday evening.
St Pauli Girl, which is trained by Blanchard for his wife, Karen, broke her overcheck.
Three attempts to rectify the problem failed, for the overcheck broke each time.
The programme was delayed 15 minutes. Trainer John Villiger was also fined $5O on a similar charge after Dark Victory broke at the start, causing a check to Poplar Minbar. It was found that one of the horse’s hopple shorteners had failed to release just after the start.
