Prince Midas for Loburn stud

Peter and Julie McClelland, of the Kilmorey Stud, Loburn announced a replacement standardbred stallion for the ill-fated, Golden Fulla, last week.

The four-year-old Albatross entire, Prince Midas, a 1:55.2 three-year-old, which won $98,000 in stakes, is due to arrive in New Zealand around the middle of next month.

Prince Midas, a $125,000 yearling purchase in North America, is bred on the same Alba-tross-Bret Hanover cross that has produced such top racehorses and sires as Sonsam and B.G.’s Bunny.

. Prince Midas is the second foal from Tudora Hanover, a three-quarter sister to Hot Hitter (1:54 and $963,574) and a sister to the fine winner, Summary Judgement (1:57.4 and $296,274). A seven length winner of an early two-year-old pace in 1:57.4, Prince Midas was also placed in 1:55.2 on two occasions as a two-year-old: He ran second in the Pennsylvania Sires’ Stakes to Dragon’s Lair, and third in the Hayes Memorial to Marauder.

Racing against a vintage crop of juveniles, which included Nihilator, the dark bay earned over $50,000 as a juvenile.

Peter McClelland, who drove the 15.2 hands stallion in work during a recent visit to North America, was impressed with the horses’ gait and manner and said he was a big-striding relaxed individual.
