Asti Bay back to best

Special correspondent Wellington

Asti Bay looks back to his best form and he could stretch his winning sequence to two when he tackles the Springvale Handicap, the first leg of the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club’s T.A.B. double at Hastings tomorrow. Last winter Asti Bay showed good form as a two-year-old and he found some of that class again at the end of his three-year-old racing when he ran second, albeit a distance from Gatcombe’s Pride, in the Petone Handicap at Trentham. A week later Asti Bay was at Levin winning the Silverdale and he looks a good chance here. Cody and Wimsey, near the top of the handicap, look the best of the others. Cody’s effort at Awapuni two weeks ago for seventh wasn’t a bad one. It was

in the class 1 Winter Cup Trial and he did have to cover some extra ground. Cody also tackled the Whyte Handicap at Trentham. His recent wins have come at Wanganui and Awapuni. Wimsey is not the least chance. While he failed at Hawera last time, he was a good second behind Work Of Art at Wanganui in an earlier event

The promising Eales’ galloper, Standing Ovation, won at Wanganui a month ago after recording two seconds and she looks the leading light in the second leg, the Okawa Handicap. Radiate, the filly, won the Juvenile at Trentham on Parliamentary day, and though some way from Arctic Wolf, was a good fourth In the Ryder last time. Matamata mare, Aislinn, Nut Brown and Anvonia look the best of the others.
