Airport delays
Sir,—Further to your story of passengers’ fury over delays at Christchurch airport (July 28), I think it is high time the City Council took effective action to stop this continuing blot on our fair city. Here is yet another example. On Saturday, July 26, ex Flight QF4S, I arrived with many other weary travellers from Sydney. Many of us were tired out after a long flight from Europe, prolonged frustratingly by the callous P.S.A. strike. The flight from Sydney took 222y 2 hours, then after landing, we had to spend half this time (1% hours) wearily waiting to get through the desks. Nearly all this ordeal we spent in a long queue, moving at a snail’s pace, carrying heavy hand baggage. And the cause — simply insufficient staff on the agriculture and customs desks. The usual excuse of two aircraft in together could not be used. Visitors’ vitriolic comments were fully justified; so much for attracting tourists to Christchurch.—Yours, etc., S. P. FLETCHER. July 29, 1986.
