This Christchurch-de-signed yacht is to be displayed at the Sydney Boat show and will then go to Whitsunday Island, off ' Queensland, on charter.
The 38ft Chieftain luxury cruiser was designed two years ago by Cook Brothers, of Christchurch, and its manufacture was taken over earlier this year by Chieftain Yachts, Ltd.
The $175,000 craft was taken from the firm’s Dyers Road factory over Evans Pass to Lyttelton. After tests it will be shipped to Sydney and displayed at the six-day
boat show in August before being taken over by its new owners for charter work. The company’s marketing manager, Mr Jamie Tulloch, said that
interest in the design had come already from Canada and America, as well as Australia. This was the first Chieftain 38 and it was hoped other export orders would soon follow.
