Postal voting seen as advantage for Labour
Labour’s Mayoral candidate, Cr Alex Clark, believes postal voting may give bis party the edge in the Christchurch City Council election.
Cr Clark, who launched the Labour local government campaign last evening, sees his chances of becoming Mayor as “out of all proportion to last time.” He was unsuccessful in
his bid in 1977. His opponent then was also Sir Hamish Hay.
Cr Clark believes he is much better known this time round and his work on the council will speak for itself.
"Postal voting will make a big difference,” Cr Clark said.
The Labour campaign, complete with Maori songs, theme music, and a
slogan, “Christchurch our city together as one,” is aimed at young and firsttime voters.
“We are looking to pick up the young voters through postal voting,” he said.
“Citizens can run their campaign as low key as they want. Labour will take the initiative,” Cr Clark said.
