D. McGowan to train at Pukekohe
David McGowan has moved north to take up a position as private trainer for a three-man Auck-land-based syndicate. McGowan will operate from Pukekohe where he will share the property held for several years by another former Canterbury trainer, Tony Perucich. The right to train a limited number of outside horses has been retained
by McGowan, who took the highly-rated three-year-old trotter, Fergy’s Rocket, and a rising two-year-old with him. Fergy’s Rocket was one of the better performers in his age group this season. He has been kept in work during the winter and will be ready to resume racing in the next week or two. McGowan has high hopes for a rising two-
year-old colt by the former smart juvenile in Jayex from Smash Hit. He was a winner at Sunday trials last week-end and will be on hand for early juvenile events towards the end of September. McGowan was for some time associated with Peter Robertson’s team at Templeton, but more recently he trained on his own account near Lincoln.
