Name change sought
PA Wellington A motion to change the name of the Wellington Trotting Club will be put to members at the club’s annual meeting next month. The club’s committee is seeking to change the name to the Wellington Hamess Racing Club in line with the theme that will be used to promote the industry this year. Mr Steven Richardson, the Club secretary, said that a logo “Go harness racing and be a winner” will be promoted in advertising this year by the N.Z. Trotting Conference. He said the monthly Trotting Calendar was also having a name change to the New Zealand Hamess Racing
Weekly and the industry was known as harness racing in America and Australia. The motion is subject to approval from the executive of the Trotting Conference and if passed, is unlikely to be implemented till next season.
