Sir Robert leaves stage
PA Auckland Sir Robert Muldoon nas left the “Rocky Horror Show’’ with a sequinned shoe as a memento of his week under the spotlights with the outlandish musical. The former Prime Minister thanked the cast at an after-show party, praising them for their support and apologising for the odd mistake he had made. The show’s star, Daniel Abineri, said Sir Robert had made an excellent actor. “I don’t know any actor who can walk on to the stage, do a couple of pelvic thrusts and get a standing ovation,” he said. Sir Robert’s involvement in the musical made world headlines with reports in the “New York Times” and the British “Guardian” last week. Australian Network Television recorded a performance which was screened on prime time television last Friday evening. Sir Robert has returned now to normal parliamentary duties while the show’s full-time narrator, Paul Minnifie, steps back under the lights. The show, which played to sellout houses since it opened in Auckland, has extended its season to August 16.
