‘Ultimate car’ at Chch show
The highlight of Motor Show ’B6, which will open at Canterbury Court tomorrow afternoon, will most likely be an Italian Lamborghini Countach, the only car of its kind in New Zealand and valued at between $400,000 and $500,000.
This very sleek rearengined coupe has been described as “the ultimate car,” and is used as the basis for the advertising of Alpine in-car audio equipment
It has been air freighted to New Zealand from Japan by Alpine Electronics (New Zealand) Ltd, for display at Auckland’s Motor Expo ’B6, which was held recently, and also at Christchurch’s Motor Show 'B6. At the Auckland show, the Countach was used to promote and raise funds for Project 4000, the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind’s current fund-raising scheme. Alpine Electronics (New Zealand) Ltd, hopes that Christchurch show visitors will support the project in the same generous manner as did the
Aucklanders. At Motor Expo ’B6, $5OOO was raised.
Insured for $450,000, the Countach is powered by a 5.2 litre Vl2 engine which develops 335 kW at 7000 rpm. This car, which has covered only 145 km, is capable of 295km/h. Only 10 examples of the Countach are produced each year, most of them finding homes in the Middle East. The Christchurch Motor Show will open tomorrow at 1 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. The same hours will be observed each day until Sunday, when the show will conclude at 5 p.m.
