Three direct entry schemes

There are three schemes of direct entry to the commissioned ranks of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. OFFICER CADET UNIVERSITY The aim of this R.N.Z.A.F. officer cadetship is to ensure a steady flow of university-trained career officers into the Air Force. Each year a number of cadets is selected to undertake full time study at Canterbury University. During this period, they enjoy all the privileges and accept all the responsibilities of being a

member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and live at R.N.Z.A.F. Base at Wigram. Cadets receive a full salary while attending university and all their tuition fees are paid by the service. Military training is undertaken during university vacations. OFFICER CADETS AIRCREW (Pilots and Navigators) The major entry to flying careens is through the Officer Cadet — Aircrew scheme. This cadetship gives equal opportunity to pilots and navigators to climb to the highest posts within the service. DIRECT ENTRY OFFICERS From time to time, the Royal New Zealand Air Force accepts applications from men and women with suitable civilian qualifications for appointment to commissions in most branches of the service. These specialist occupations include, doctors, teachers, engineers, psychologists, secretarial and accounting officers, works and catering officers and chaplains.: Officers appointed to a direct entiy commission are expected to successfully complete a 19-week initial officer training course during their probationary first year. This is a “live-in” course conducted at R.N.Z.A.F. Base, Wigram.
