Increase in rates
Sir,—A study of rates charges for a small Christchurch rental property reveals some huge increases in the “other local bodies” category. These (comparing 1985 and 1986 rates) were: Canterbury United Council, 37 per cent; Transport Board, 18 per cent; Catchment Board, 25 per cent; Drainage Board, 16 per cent. Now that the Government is on a quango hunt, surely it is time the Local Government Commission does the same with respect to bodies like the Catchment Board and Canterbury United Council. — Yours, etc., J. KITSON. July 26, 1986.
