Dunedin Games suggested
By
ROBIN CHARTERIS
in Edinburgh They remember their own, these sturdy folk of Edinburgh. The next Commonweath Games should be in that “Edinburgh of the South,” Dunedin, according to one resident here. Mr Thomas Milton, of Drumbrae Crescent, writing to the editor of Edinburgh’s "Evening News," puts in a plug for Edinburgh’s New Zealand namesake when he proposes a new name for the Games. "Readers must be sick
to death of hearing and reading about the childish behaviour of Governments of the Commonwealth countries bickering so much in ‘tit for tat’ decisions about participating in the Games;” he wrote. “Surely the solution is to drop the name ‘Commonwealth’ and from now on refer to such sporting gatherings as ‘The Edinburgh Games’ or ‘the Scottish Games.’; “We could then have next time round ‘The Dunedin (or) New Zealand games’."
