Soccer squad on count
NZPA-Reuter Milan Italy’s entire 1982 World Cup-winning soccer squad have been sent for trial on charges that they broke Italian currency regulations four years ago. The hearing against the 22 players will open on December 15 in Milan, judicial sources said yesterday. The charges carry prison sentences of be-
tween one and six years and fines of up to 84 million lire ($111,000). The players, including the captain, Dino Zoff, and the leading scorer, Paolo Rossi, are each accused of failing to convert a $27,500 payment from a sponsor at the World Cup finals in Spain into Italian lire within a month of returning home, as required by the law.
