Shooters successful
The Christchurch Smallbore Rifle Association team has successfully defended the Andrew S. Faulkner Shield, shot between South Island associations.
Nineteen teams took part in the competition and Christchurch, the host association, finished with a score of 1951.78, ahead of Marlborough (1944.69) and East Otago (1942.69). The "top five” trophy went to Christchurch on 983.48. Timaru was second with 981.38 and Ellesmere third with 976.38.
The association trophy for the second five winner was again won by West Coast with a score of 991.2. Central Otago was second on 989.29 and North Southland scored 989.21 for third place. This trophy is awarded on a handicap system. Top scorers on the day were Ernie Herman (Invercargill), 200.6, Archie Still (Christchurch), 199.13, Ken Johnston (Invercargill), 199.12, and Robin Heaton, Timaru, 199.9.
