Dr Shearer to sue party executives
PA Auckland The former member of Parliament for Hamilton East, Dr lan Shearer, will serve writs on National Party executives when they arrive in Auckland next week-end for the party’s annual conference, the “Sunday Star” reports. Dr Shearer is. suing executive members who decided to suspend him
from the party. He alleges the suspension was a denial of natural justice and a breach of contract. The action is similar to that taken by a Methven party official, Mrs Margaret Quin: Those named in documents sent to the High Court at Wellington last Friday include the retiring party president, Mrs Sue Wood, the Leader of
the Opposition, Mr Bolger, his predecessor, Mr Jim McLay, and the member of Parliament for Franklin, Mr Bill Birch. Because the executive members were scattered throughout New Zealand, Dr Shearer’s lawyer, Mr Kevin Ryan, said he had decided to have the writs served while they were in Auckland for the party’s Dominion conference.
