Myxomatosis
Sir,—Myxomatosis is such a cruel, inhumane idea for controlling rabbits. Surely a simple solution would be for the Pests Destruction Council and the hundreds of suitable people, plus retired sportsmen with excellent experience in shooting, to be organised in a drive to reduce the rabbit population. Myxomatosis has been tried in Australia and rabbits are now immune to it. It has been made illegal in the United Kingdom Farmers could once again co-operate in the eradication of rabbits by allowing legitimate shooters on their properties. The horrible suffering of rabbits could then be avoided with a quick death and New Zealand once again lead the world with its approach to such a devastating problem. — Yours, etc.,
(Mrs) E. A. STONEHOUSE. Blenheim, July 22, 1986.
