Farm business is convention topic
As a result of concerns feeing agriculture, a major convention is planned to focus on agriculture as a business. The convention in Auckland in August is presented by the Institute of Agricultural Science. It is expected to attract considerable interest
The first day of the convention is planned to have wide appeal and provide an insight into the direction, measurement and success of agriculture in today’s environment Emphasis will be on putting agriculture on a strong business basis free of government intervention. This day will be followed by a range of related field days; plenaries and discussions from various N.Z.I.A.S. participating societies. Dr John Morris, VicePresident of Safeways Supermarket chain, the world’s largest food retailer, will provide the key speech of the first day. This will be followed by a range of prominent speakers from producers’ boards, government universities and farming. Lively discussion is expected. The second day of the
conference will have a series of concurrent sessions by N.Z.I.A.S. participating societies. The Society of Farm Management will have seminars on the changing face of agriculture, fanning for the future and the business of farm management The Horticultural Science Society will also focus on similar themes in horticulture. More specialised sessions will be run by the other participating societies such as the Meteorological Society. Major joint plenary sessions will be held on the business of research and resource allocation and information transfer.
With the large numbers expected to attend the first day of the conference, this will be held at the new Conference Centre at the Auckland Show Grounds. The other sessions will be held at the newly named Auckland Education Centre in Epsom.
