Aitkenhead for progress

PA Wellington Despite being a relatively small company in an industry apparently dominated by corporate giants, Aitkenhead Group, Ltd, expected to continue and progress, the company’s chairman, Mr Brian Allison, told yesterday’s annual meeting. He said the company’s particular strengths included the

basic facility provided by its sawmill at Pokeno.

This was ideally located near the Auckland market and was a modern unit which could meet any market needs in the foreseeable future.

It was also big enough to allow for expansion of the company’s housing and other marketing activities, he said. Aitkenhead had a flexible

management and had chosen markets and areas of operation where it could compete well, despite its size.

He said those factors were reflected in last year’s profit, when earnings rose 95.4 per cent to $1,268,000, and also in the company’s shares which had given shareholders a capital gain of -60 per cent since listing this year.
