Lincoln Golf Club wants course extension
The Lincoln Golf Club wants to extend part of its course into the Lincoln Cemetery. The Paparua County Council’s reserves committee considered last evening a recommendation seeking approval for the club to extend into an unused part of the cemetery.
A decision was held over until next month after Cr Jim Baker expressed concern that the land in question had been sold to a religious denomination many years ago. He did not think there had been any burials there.
In a report to the committee, the reserves superintendent, Mr M. D. Rykers, said the proposed area was eight metres away from the nearest occupied burial blocks. “This part of the cemetery is unused and was identified on early cemetery plans as unsatisfactory for burial purposes because of its low-lying position,” the report said. Tai Tapu
The committee resolved to look into the cost of purchasing a section at Tai Tapu to build a chil-
dren’s playground. Mrs Jill Ross, of the Tai Tapu Residents’ Association, told the meeting there was a lack of suitable playing facilities. The existing domain was too far away from the village and there were no other facilities, she said.
Answering questions by councillors, she said the association was not prepared to undertake the whole project, but it would make a contribution in areas such as planting or seating. A site plan showing trees, other planting, and fences was presented.
