Early sale successful

PA Wellington The special early season combined North Island wool sale at Wellington yesterday was successful, with prices close to last month’s Christchurch sale. The official report said a good tone of competition was evident throughout the range of wool-types, with widespread interest. Principal buyers were from China and Eastern Europe, with support from New Zealand carpet mills and merchant scourers. First crutchings and second

shear oddments were up 5 per cent to fully 7.5 per cent compared with the Christchurch sale on June 27. However, the second-shear offering was generally unchanged to be inclined in buyers’ favour, and fleece was barely steady. Of 22,505 bales, 4099, including 1200 on account of the Wool Board, were from Wanganui, 10,840 from Napier and 7566 from Auckland. The composition was: fleece 10 per cent, second shear 58 per cent, lambs’ 3 per cent, first crutchings 8 per cent, second-shear oddments 18 per cent and miscellaneous 3 per cent The market indicator was 486 c (clean) and 361 c (greasy). A range of clean on floor prices in cents a kilogram is: Crossbred fleece, 35 micron, 105 to 115 mm: Good to 530, average to good to 515. 37 micron, 105 to 115 mm: Good to 576, average to good 508 to 513, average 500 to 607.

Second-shear fleece, 31 micron, 50/75 to 75mm: Good 478 to 488, average to good 470 to 483. 33 micron, 75 to 50/100mm: Good 486 to 500, average to good 478 to 490, average 470 to 480. 33 micron, 25/75 to 50/75mm: Good to 490, average to good 462 to 471, average 464 to 469. 35 micron, 75/100 to 75/ 125 mm: Good 506 to 516, average to good 496 to 508. 35
