Video show offer to Mr Tapsell
PA Wellington The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Tapsell, has been offered a demonstration of the type of pornographic and violent material available on commercial video tapes.
The offer has came from Miss Patricia Bartlett, national secretary of the Society for the Promotion of Community Standards.
But Mr Tapsell said he had not yet received Miss Bartlett’s offer and would not comment on it until he saw it. Miss Bartlett was responding, in a statement, to what she called a defeatist attitude by Mr Tapsell over the Video Recordings Bill. She said he seemed to accept that effective control over violent and pornographic videos was not practicable because they would always be available to those who wanted them.
This was “an invitation to purveyors of such vicious material to persist 6ith their nefarious ade,” she said. ®
