Frontiersman one of best
By
J. J. BOYLE
Frontiersman was one the most attractive trialists at Riccarton yesterday in his winding-up gallop for the Christchurch Hunt’s Beefeater Camla Handicap tomorrow. With Tidemark as galloping companion, he sprinted 800 m wide out on the course proper in 51.9, and completed his work in tradesmanlike fashion.
Reingard wound up for the Ashley Meats Brabazon Handicap by running 800 m in 52.8. He had his
stablemate Jazemay for company.
Black Arrow and Noble Note, two other Riccartontrained hopefuls for the Brabazon, finished 1000 m on terms in 1:7.2, the last 800 in 53.8, and the final 600 in 41.2. Blovinski, another Brabazon Handicap contender, finished his solo 1200 m in 1:24.2, the last 800 m in 55.2, and the final 600 in 42.6.
A slight setback cost Blovinski a start in Washdyke last week, but he
shook off the trouble quickly, and looks bright and strong. Puffasmoke, a stablemate of Blovinski, and a form runner for the first David Gould 1400 m tomorrow, did his cause no harm when he sprinted his 800 m in 52.6, the last 600 m in 40.
Vitzburg led Silver Shadow by three lengths finishing 800 in 55.4.
Marche Noir, one of the earliest workers, sprinted from the 800 in 55. Bijou
Lady followed in 53 and Meadow Maid and Silver Tussock in an unhurried
Ampac was shading La Brya finishing 800 m in 54. Open Bay and My Maverick got through their 800 m in 53.6, and the Thistoll trained Maestri and Benlea Boy came up with an encouraging 52.6. Newginn, which will make her race debut in the second Haldon Plate, reeled off 600 in 37.9, a promising effort.
