N.Z.-made racing cars for China
PA Wellington A shipment of New Zea-land-made racing cars has been sent to China, according to the journal, “Exporter.” The journal of the Export Institute said Formula Manufacturing, of Hamilton, had loaded 12 Canam amusement park cars for delivery to the Long Hu Park in Swatow province. It said the designer, Terry Scott, had exhibited the tiny, Honda-powered fun machines at the Chicago Trade Fair last November, where they had been seen by the Chinese.
“Developed by Mr Scott for an amusement park he part-owned, built and run in Brisbane, the Canam cars are replicas of formula one racers, with attractive reinforced fibreglass bodies,” said the “Exporter.” “Under the body is a shp Honda motor which will push the car along at
exhilarating speeds, and the whole unit is surrounded by spring-loaded bumpers which save the car, and the driver from any impact.” The Long Hu Amusement Park was built to serve the million residents of the area, it said. Although this was the first order of the cars from China, Formula Manufacturing had exported “hundreds of the little cars in the last few years” to other countries, said the journal.
