Drivers voting on likely withdrawal
Members of the Canter-bury-Westland Drivers’ Union have begun voting on whether the union should withdraw from the Distribution Workers’ Federation.
The meetings, including one yesterday in Christchurch of general drivers, will continue next month. The union expects to know by September 26
whether members support the recommendation by the union’s executive that it withdraw. The federation comprises unions of stores, shop and transport workers. It was formed a year ago, but the Canterbury Drivers’ Union executive considers that it has not been worth the $17,728 affiliation fee for the year.
