First flight due since changes
Special correspondent Auckland
The first contingent of New Zealand-bound horses from the United States since the change in quarantine regulations is to arrive in Auckland tomorrow.
The flight, which has been organised by International Racehorse Transport (NZ) Ltd, is direct from Los Angeles and it consists of 33 horses, seven of which will travel on to Australia.
The six thoroughbred stallions on the flight, Morcon, Tights, Broadway Ali, Karensky, Victory Zone and Minstrel Blues have all undergone the new regulations, which were introduced in May. The change in regulations means that horses being imported from America to New Zealand need undergo a 30 day quarantine period, as against a previous minimum of 60 days. The horses also come direct from the United States. Also booked on tomorrow’s flight are the standardbred stallions, Holmes Hanover, Present Laughter and Talk About Class and included among several broodmares is the thoroughbred, Era of Triumph. A former top two-year-old in New Zealand, Era of Triumph, has recently been purchased by Ainsley Downs Stud, Te Kauwhata, for clients of the stud.
