Equestrian team to visit
PA Wellington Australia will send a team of four riders to contest the Trans Tasman Cup at next year’s national three-day event at Taupo. It will be the first Australian team to cross the Tasman since 1974. The New Zealand Horse Society’s horse trials publicity officer, Virginia Caro, said the Australians would arrive in May and contest at least one oneday trial, in competition with New Zealand’s best, as a prelude to Taupo. competed in the national three-day event it won both the team and individual titles. The Trans-Tasman Cup will be contested every second year, sandwiching the Olympic Games and world championships. ® The New Zealand Olympic champion, Mark Todd, is among the leading riders entered for the Croft Original British Open horse trials at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire on August 16-17, reports NZPA-AAP in London. Todd has entered the horses he rode at Badminton in April: Merrill Lynch’s Any Chance and Michaelmas Day.
