Possible explosion averted
A possible gas explosion was averted by firemen at the Farrier Waimak plant in Pound Road yesterday. Firemen called to the yard just before 9.30 a.m. found an oxy-acetylene welding plant on fire. They made a makeshift dam and immersed the cylinders in water to extinguish them. “It was a routine procedure, but a burning gas cylinder is always a worry. People have been killed by them,” said a Fife Service spokesman.
