The Section runs courses in English Language and Study Skills. Also there is scope for involvement in a wider range of Applied Linguistics instruction. Teaching is primarily to students at either pre-University entry level or first year under graduate level and includes students of all faculties. < Candidates should possess qualifications in Applied Linguistics or TESL with past related experience. The Department offers a range of pre-service and in-service programmes at diploma and degree levels designed to meet national human resource needs in education, The Professor, who may not necessarily be Head of Department, is expected to provide leadership in teaching and research for the Department and to ensure that the Department's localisation programme is implemented effectively. The Professor is also expected to undertake consultancy work in the national education system. The appointee will have considerable successful teaching experience, preferably in the Third World, substantial internationally recognised academic achievements and demonstratecileadership qualities. Successful applicants will need to design residential and distance courses and prepare written and audio-visual materials.
