$146M drop in building work
PA Wellington The value of building work during the March quarter fell by $145.9 million compared with the December quarter of 1985, the Department of Statistics said yesterday. The fall was caused mainly by the normal seasonal decline in March, the department said. But in seasonally adjusted terms the building work put in place also showed a $27.1 million fall. Ings decreased by $81.2 million and alterations and additions to dwellings fell by $21.0 million. Work put in place for other buildings decreased by $43.7 million compared with the December, 1985, quarter. For the first time since the June quarter, 1983, the value of building work put in place for other buildings was greater than the value of work for total dwellings. Work put in place for commercial buildings fell by $29.8 million from the December quarter, 1985, level, while hotels, boarding houses decreased by $ll.l million.
