Another good sale for prime stock

Prime stock prices either firmed or remained steady at the Addington market yesterday. A big yarding of almost 3000 prime lambs sold quite freely, bacon pigs were in short supply, and well-fin-ished beef cattle sold wen. In the store stock pens, a line of woolly ewes with wellgrown Down cross lambs at foot made $9 (all counted) and mated woolly ewes sold at $9 to $l6. Prime lambs Very few lambs sold for less than $ll in another confident prime lamb market. All types sold well, from overfat ewe lambs to heavy ram lambs. Prices were generally on a par with last week’s although the value of light and medium lambs tended to strengthen slightly. A pen of big ram lambs sold at $25.20, while other good ram lambs made $l9 to $23, and mediums were $l5 to $l7. Most overfat ewes fetched $12.60 to $14.60. Prime cattle Good quality steers and heifers of all weights sold steadily in another sound beef sale, although prices did not fully reflect this week's rise in the. beef export schedule. Buyers showed a definite preference for well-finsihed stock while cattle of nondescript quality were discounted. Several heavy steers sold between $650 and $BOO. The top price of $B3O was ovtained by two vendors, Mrs L. E. Seaton of Aylesbury, for a Simmental-Friesian cross steer, and by Mrs P. de Pass, of Kaituna, for a Friesian steer. A Hereford-Friesian cross heifer from G. Sutton, of Kaituna, made $495. The cattle yarding was 387 compared with 446 last week. Prime steers and heifers to 220 kg sold between 160 c and 170 c a kilogram; from 220 kg to 270 kg, 160 c and 170 c; and over 270 kg to 170 c. Values were:— Prime heavy steers, to $B3O. Prime medium steers, $486 to $560.

STORE SHEEP Several good quality lines of mated ewes were offered in the store sheep sale, including some ewes on the point of lambing. Among sales of older sheep were heavilywoolled Coopworths at $l2, $13.80, and $l6, Perendales at $11.40, and Halfbreds at $ll.BO. Shorn ewes were mostly $6 to $8.40.
