A sticky problem for P.O.
PA Wellington The Post Office has had to replace 2000 vehicle relicensing stickers in the five main centres so far this month. “This is three times as many as in other years,” a Post Office spokesman, Mr Simon Read, said yesterday. Most of the labels have come off -windscreens. They were previously stuck inside. “A lot of people did not get it right the first time,” Mr Read said. “The labels broke when they were putting them on.” Some motorists say the stickers came off even though they had been put on a clean windscreen clear of the wipers. The Post Office said it did not have a total for replacements New Zea-land-wide. The 22 district chief postmasters have been asked to let Post Office headquarters know of any problems they have with labels, but Mr Read said their reports were not in yet. The manufacturers said the material for labels this year was identical to that used previously for labels on caravans and motor-cycles. The Post Office has asked for reports on the new labels from the manufacturer and the D.S.I.R. These are expected next week. In Oamaru there have been 209 replacement requests. The Ministry of Transport’s assistant director of road transport, Mr Jeff Connell, said the future of the labels would be discussed by the Ministry, the Post Office, and the label supplier. The review would take place after the Post Office’s motor registration branch had the final tally on statistics on national applications for label replacement ~
