Javelin record ratified
PA Wellington Gavin Lovegrove’s world junior record with the new javelin has been ratified by Greek athletics authorities. The New Zealand team, preparing for the world junior athletics championships in Athens in three days,
received notice of the ratification, said the manager, Mr Don Willoughby. Lovegrove, of Hamilton, threw the new implement 76.68 m at a world championship warm-up 1 meeting in Athens last week to shatter the record held by a British thrower.
