Katyn Forest
Sir, — Attempts to stifle discussion on this topic in these columns take various forms. The latest by W. E. Findlay (July 17) attempts, by facetiousness, where other means have failed. No-one compels him to read the cor-, respondence on the Katyn Forest massacre and his citing the trite banality of J. K. Galbraith’s “the theological nature of Marxist discussion” and "St Marx” shows clearly the target of his attack, because apart from W. E. Findlay’s letter, Marx has never been mentioned in this correspondence. It is clear that his sympathies lie with the numerous correspondents attempting to blame the Soviets for the Katyn Forest massacre. His call for the closing of this correspondence is obviously because he feels that they are being worsted (or bested, as the case may be) by the facts of history recorded in “The Press" in 1943. I am flattered. — Yours, etc.,
M. CREEL. July 17, 1986.
