Addington market

First ewes with lambs

Ewes with new-born lambs at foot made $7.50 (all counted) in their first appearance of the season at the Addington market yesterday. The mob of 98 ewes and 105 lambs was a feature of a sound sale of store sheep. The demand for prime lambs and beef remained firm In spite of big yardings of stock. Prime lambs Lamb prices held up surprisingly well, considering the yarding of 3400 lambs was the biggest of the season and almost 1500 greater than last week. Butchers, processors and outside buyers contributed to the confident tone bf the market Prices generally maintained last week’s rise. Prime cattle

Beef cattle received a mixed reception . from butchers and processing company buyers, although overall prices were on a par with recent Addington prime-cattle sales.

A big yarding of 446 cattle (303 last week) probably contributed to the variable sale. Good-quality heavy steers sold strongly, but lighter heifers were slightly harder to quit.

The quality of the mated ewes offered was not as good as aat the special sale for inlamb ewes last week.
