Plaques likely for trees
Protected trees in Riccarton Borough may soon have special plaques. The Riccarton Borough Council is considering a recommendation from its town-planning committee to have a firmer policy on protection of trees. "Parts of the borough were planted more than 100 years ago and now contain significant individual trees and groups of trees,” the committee said.
The plaques would make trees readily identifiable, said the Borough Engineer, Mr Peter Nichols.
Protection for historic Riccarton buildings was also sought by the committee. The initial list of buildings worthy of preservation contained Mona Vale and the old Wood Bros Mill building in Wise Street, but Mr Nichols said other buildings might be added later.
