18 from Chch in orchestra
The 1986 New Zealand Vouth Orchestra has 18 Christchurch musicians as members. Two former Christchurch students are also included in the 89-strong orchestra. The musicians will meet in Hamilton in August for a week-long school and performances in Cambridge, Hamilton and Auckland.
The musicians, all under 23, were selected in auditions held in April.. The conductor for the
1986 orchestra is Thomas Sanderling, who directed the 1983 Youth Orchestra in Christchurch.
This year’s soloist is a 15-year-old Australian, Adele Anthony, who has already toured extensively in Australia and Europe.
The Christchurch members of the orchestra are Jane Wright, the leader, Martin Riseley, and Sarah McClelland, first violins; Justine Cormack, Penelope Dawson, and Kerry Wood, second violins; Anthony Van Buren, Deborah Woodley and Stephanie Tullock, violas; Janet Sim, Robyn Cormack and Louise Thomson, cellos; Wayne Morriss, double bass; Milja Albers, Richard Chandler, Martin Gardiner, bassoons; David Pearce, tuba; and Duncan Catanach, timpani. The former Christchurch members are Lisa Egen and Allistalr Bush.
