PA 1 Wellington The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, read a ministerial statement on the Rainbow Warrior adjudication when parliament sat at 2 p.m. yesterday. The Speaker, Dr Wall, evicted four members of the Opposition for breaches of Standing Orders the reading of Mr Lange’s statement
They were the Opposition’s spokesman on Foreign Affairs, Sir Robert; Muldoon (Nat., Tamaki), Mr W. E. Cooper (Nat., Otago), Mr N. H. Austin (Nat., r Bay of Islands) and Mr R. L. G. Talbot (Nat., Ashburton). The report of the Education Department for the year ended March 31 was tabled by the Leader of the House, Mr Palmer.
Ministers answered five questions of the day; Dr Wall accepted an Opposition request for a snap debate on the ruling transferring the two French? agents convicted for their part in the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior to French military authorities on the French Polynesian atoll of Hao. The Speaker declined a separate Opposition application for a snap debate on the statement made by the Minister of Finance, Mr Douglas, last Friday announcing; Government plans to cut Estate spending by a further $1 billion.
Members then began) debating the ruling on l the agents made by the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Javier Perez de Cuellar.
When the debate ended, the Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, moved the introduction of the Protection of Undercover Police Officers Bill.
Debate on the introduction of the bill continued when the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. after the dinner break.
The bill was introduced and referred to the Justice and Law Reform Select Committee. 1
The Tokelau Amendment Bill passed through its committee stages. The bill was then given a third reading. Debate then began on the third reading of the Air Services Licensing Amendment Bill.
The bill was given a third reading. j The interrupted debate on the second reading of the Union Representatives Education League Bill was resumed.
The debate was interrupted when the House rose at 11 p.m.
