New district court judge appointed
Wellington reporter The appointment of Stephen George Erber as a District Court Judge at Christchurch was announced today by the Minister of Justice, Mr Geoffrey Palmer. Mr Erber graduated LL.B from Canterbury University in 1963, and became a solicitor in the firm of Weston Ward and Lascelles, of Christchurch. He also holds an LL.M degree. In 1968 Mr Erber became a partner in the firm, a position in which he has remained until his
judicial appointment. Mr Erber was a lecturer in Constitutional and
Administrative Law at the University of Canterbury from 1966 to 1970. He has been a member of the Council of the Canterbury District Law Society since 1980, and a member of the executive since last year. Mr Erber has been a member of the Crown Prosecuting Panel since 1975, of the Public and Administrative ‘Law Reform Committee 5 since 1982, and a member of the -ad hoc Search and Search Warrants Law Reform Committee since 1983. ■ .
Mr Erber, aged 45, is married and has one child.
