Rain disrupts cargo work
Bad weather disrupted work on three general cargo vessels at the Port of Lyttelton yesterday. The port had a dreary air as the rain fell and the ships sat idle.
The general cargo vessels hot worked were Ken Grove, which had a shipment of steel; Nedlloyd Baltimore, which has breakbulk cargo; and Kandava, which is carrying a shipment of bananas. All three ships arrived at port yesterday. Ken Grove came from Wellington, Kandava sailed from Auckland, and Nedlloyd Baltimore called from Singapore. Most of the activity in the port was centred round two container ships which have special arrangements for working in wet weather. The big container ship New Zealand Pacific was expected to finish work at Cashin Quay last evening and sail for Dunedin. The other ship Canterbury Express is due to sail for Auckland this afternoon.
