Parties doubts
Political parties should not be formed in Hong Kong because they could affect the colony’s future stability, a senior Chinese official has been quoted as saying. The pro-Peking “New Evening Post” quoted Lu Ping, secretarygeneral of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, as saying he did not favour political parties. Mr Lu said a committee drafting a mini-constitution for the colony, due to revert to Chinese rule in 1997, would have to decide whether political parties should be banned. — Hong Kong.
