Record price for house
A house in Wood Lane, Fendalton, was sold recently for the highest price reached in Christchurch this year for a single residential property. The house, which has 3339 sq m of garden, was sold at close to the advertised price of $695,000, according to the agent for the sale, Mr Robert McCormack, of Harcourts, Ltd. He would not disclose the sale price. Bounded on two sides by the Avon River and Mona Vale, the property has its own private island. Mr McCormack said the immediate past owners bought the property last year for about $345,000 and had since spent another $350,000
renovating the 100-year-old house. “The old stables that formed part of the original outbuildings have been retained as a feature of the property and the original gardens have been replanted and landscaped in keeping with what has been described as the perfect Christchurch setting.” Although the recent property market has been sluggish, Mr McCormack said there had been no problem selling such an expensive property. “I had the listing for about three weeks and sold it without having to advertise — there are people interested in this type of property.”
