Guide on rights released
The Human Rights Commission has released a guide for employers after continuing requests for information about their responsibilities under the Human Rights Act. The commission first published an employers’
guide when the act became law about 10 years ago. Since then, however, amendments, court decisions, and changing social attitudes have created a need for a revised guide. The new guide concentrates on such issues as advertising for new staff,
hiring, setting terms and conditions of employment, training staff, and dismissing employees. There is also a brief section on sexual harassment. Copies of the booklet are available free from the commission’s offices s in Auckland, Wellington, , or Christchurch.
