Three senior police appointments
PA Wellington The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ken Thompson, has announced three senior police appointments. Chief Superintendent Brian Mooney has been promoted to Deputy Assistant Commissioner and appointed to lead a newly reorganised planning and management re- o source team at Police National Headquarters. Superintendent Ron Melrose, who recently returned to New Zealand after serving two years as Commissioner of the Cook Islands Police, has been appointed head of the new Administration Directorate. Superintendent Peter Wiersma has been promoted to Chief Superintendent and appointed Dunedin District Commander. Mr Wiersma, Wanganui District Commander, replaces Chief Superintendent Ross McLennan who has transferred to Christchurch to become Deputy District Commander at his own request. Mr McLennan was the Dunedin Commander during the city’s sex ring scandal which began late in 1984.
