U.N. head asked to arbitrate
Wellington reporter The United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Javier Perez de Cuellar, has been asked to act as arbiter in the Rainbow Warrior dispute. . _ . Confirming this yesterday, the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, said Mr Perez de Cuellar had indicated he was willing to undertake the task. Mr Lange said New Zealand and France were still considering the basis on which the matter could be put to arbitration and that a decision was likely this week. If agreement could be reached on jurisdiction, the respective positions of France and New Zealand would be put to Mr perez de Cuellar for a ruling, he said. Profile, page 25
