Car without owner
Constable Mike Clement stands beside the brown Austin Mini for which the Christchurch police cannot find an owner. The car has been in the yard at the Christchurch Central Police Station for more than two weeks, and sail attempts to find anrowner
have so far failed. Two persons were apprehended in the car a fortnight ago. They told the police that they had taken the vehicle from near the Carlton Hotel about May 26. •’'> According to a spokes-
man for the police break squad, the car had been fitted with bogus registration plates. All identification marks, such as engine and chassis numbers, had been removed. The car, a 1962 or 1963 model, appeared to have
once been painted red before being repainted brown by those who took it. A woman’s red jacket was in the vehicle and tools were in the boot. The police believe the car might have been stolen several times, and might belong to someone f roW outside Christchurch.
