The 48 bed Obstetric Unit operates under as system of open and closed beds with General Practitioners practising under contract. The Base Hospital acts as the referral unit for specialist services in the Northland region. Applicants are required to hold a higher qualification affording them Specialists Registration. Commencement date by negotiation. Salary range is $52,600-866,400 per annum in accordance with the Specialist Automatic Scale, the commencing rate to be determined by the Health Service Personnel Commission. Gisborne Hospital is completely new, opened in 1985 replacing Cook Hospital. It has very modern facilities to serve the 230 bed capacity. As base hospital for the Gisborne City/East Cape region it serves a population of some 50,000 people. There is a Specialist Radiologist on staff. The department carries out a full range of X-ray examinations including real time ultrasound with sector scanner. Very good departmental services exist including a modern, efficient Radiological Department, full Pathology facilities and a well-equipped Intensive Care Unit. There are excellent opportunities for private practice in Gisborne. The appointee shall be under the administrative control of the Medical Superintendent and shall be responsible through him to the Board for the efficient performance of his duties. The commencing rate to be determined by the Health Service Personnel Commission. Gisborne Hospital is completely new, opened in 1985 replacing Cook Hospital. It has very modern facilities to serve the 230 bed capacity. As base hospital for the Gisborne City/East Cape region it serves a population of some 50,000 people. There are three General Physicians on staff. The appointee will replace a retiring Senior Physician who has had a clinical cardiological interest.
